About this deal

The new MagBench Utility version is designed with two large holes for drills, wrenches and large tools and six smaller holes to hold screw drivers and other hand tools. There is also a recessed area in the center to retain screws fittings and other hardware. A wooden board would look very nice and work well but not ideal for a hard use application in the field like I use mine. I have thought about making a nice wooden one just as an example though and posting video and pics. The MagBench Standard is designed for laptop computers and for use with applications that require extra space for tools and test instruments. With the unique design of Gray Marine board and Stainless Steel hardware, it can handle those tough tasks in all-weather conditions. The Standard version is also incredibly strong and it can support up to 50 lbs. The MagBench Standard Workstation can be installed on any steel surface in seconds with just two simple steps; place the MagBench Workstation against the steel surface and fold down the front panel. It’s that easy! MagBench Utility (MBU) MAGNETIC PORTABLE WORK BENCH For the other RV windows I just fold the flap up from the outside and place (not tape) magnets on each to hold the flap up either full open (winter), half open (spring, summer) or remove magnets for full closed (when its supper hot). I use 1/16″ on both sides since the magnets have to attract through the reflectix.

Now drill your marks with a 9/64″ drill bit then use a countersink bit to countersink the hole for the bolt heads, or use a countersink drill bit combo, whichever you have or prefer. For the dash windshield reflectix I have 1/16″ disc magnets 3M double sided taped to the foam insulation then 1/32″ magnet double sided taped to the reflectix so the magnets will hold the reflectix window flap open when needed. Tools List: Drill, Drill Bits, Hole Saw, Dremel Circular Saw with plastic cutting blade. Only tools necessary are the drill and drill bits. The rest are optional to lighten the weight. The OmniShelf can be mounted by using 3 industrial strength magnets or 4 industrial strength suction cups.

From electric metering to oil rigs – and beyond – here are some of the ways our customers are using UtiliShelf® : I wanted the holes tight enough that the bolts would actually thread into the boards so I used a 9/64″ drill bit which is smaller than 4mm. 9/64″ = 3.571mm. This just gives a tighter, more solid build and eliminates the chance of the bolt heads pulling through the board. If you drill a big sloppy hole and countersink too deep, it can happen. I personally have never drilled too deep in a big sloppy hole. Countersink/Drill Bit Combo for M4 Bolt heads Countersink Bit for M4 Bolt holes The Mainstay Cutting Board has a recessed top and flat bottom. You can chose to face either side up and I have done both. After using both I preferred the recessed side up to better hold material including hardware, pens , flashlights etc.

The MagBench Utility Workstation can be installed on any steel surface in seconds with just two simple steps; place the MagBench Workstation against the steel surface and fold down the front panel. It’s that easy Fantastic Idea and thanks for sharing with everyone. My question is about the magnet. Does the magnet can damage hard hard drive or any other parts on the laptop? How strong the magnet should be to effect and damage the hard drive? What about Version 3? Magnetic Laptop Version 3 will put Versions 1 and 2 to shame. It will be more than than just a Laptop Shelf or Utility Shelf yet Version 3 will be thinner, lighter and more compact. Testing Station With the UtiliShelf®, you can setup a testing station just about anywhere. Attach the UtiliShelf® to a vertical metal surface and you’ve got a solid and stable testing station. Anything is possible but practically, no. Remember powerful magnets are in hard drives but fields are shunted. Just don’t store the laptop shelf magnet side touching the laptop (likely would still be fine but just to be on safe side). Store it cutting board side towards laptop. I will make an edit fully explaining the magnetic shielding, concerns etc later today but it’s important to use the magnets I specify and alternate poles. After researching all sorts of board options (too much research), I found cutting boards to be the simplest and best option. I also use these as panels to mount electronics. one issue to be concerned about, is my moving the magnets around, you could magnetize the chassis or any Ferrous metals, and for example the opening and closing of the lid could cause issues on a Drive. On the original magnetic laptop shelf I used two Mainstays 11” x 14.5” Poly Cutting Boards, a 12” piano hinge, Glow in the Dark Paracord and scavenged Hard Drive Magnets.

Generally speaking, Bolts are turned from the outside of the head while screws are turned form inside the head by various means including Hex, Philips, Slotted and Tamper Proof bits. There are exceptions to this general rule though. I will use the term bolts from here on though as it’s less typing. I wanted a Countersunk Flat Head fastener so the machine screws would be flush with top of the board. I chose M4 – 0.70 Flat Head Countersunk Machine Screws because it’s a readily available fastener size available in the different lengths I required. See short demo here: https://www.kevingittemeier.com/totalelement-magnets/ After showing a co-worker my homemade diy laptop stand I was shown his commercially available portable computer workstation by Utilishelf, which was pretty nice but a little large for my purpose. Perhaps in the future Utilishelf will make a smaller more compact version portable laptop table. The key to Version 2 is the low profile hinges and the magnet configuration. I will explain the science behind the magnet config in a future update but its important to do the magnets exactly as I have, alternating the poles.
