Dahmer Offers No Excuses". The Journal Times. February 8, 1993. Archived from the original on March 13, 2018 . Retrieved February 25, 2018. After strangling Lacy, Dahmer had sex with the corpse before dismembering him. [206] He placed Lacy's head and heart in the refrigerator and his skeleton in the freezer. [206] Four days later, on July 19, Dahmer received word that he was dismissed. [209] Upon receipt of this news, Dahmer lured 25-year-old Joseph Bradehoft to his apartment. Bradehoft was strangled and left lying on Dahmer's bed covered with a sheet for two days. On July 21, Dahmer removed the sheet to find the head covered in maggots. He decapitated the body, cleaned the head and placed it in the refrigerator. [210] He later acidified Bradehoft's torso, along with those of two other victims killed within the previous month. [211] [212] Arrest Capture February 18: Curtis Durrell Straughter, 17. Approached by Dahmer as he waited at a bus stop near Marquette University. Dahmer lured Straughter to his apartment, where he drugged, handcuffed and strangled him before dismembering his body in the bathtub. He retained Straughter's skull, hands, and genitals. Several media accounts published following Dahmer's arrest reference claims purportedly made by Dahmer's father to a parole officer in April 1990 that his older son had been molested by a neighbor at age eight. Lionel would later deny having made such claims, and Dahmer himself would deny having been subjected to any form of sexual abuse. [30] Jeffrey Dahmer was born on May 21, 1960, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, [10] the first of two sons to Lionel Herbert Dahmer, a Marquette University chemistry student and later a research chemist, and Joyce Annette Dahmer ( néeFlint), a teletype machine instructor. [11] [12] Lionel is of German and Welsh ancestry, [13] and Joyce was of English, Norwegian, and Irish ancestry. [14]

The three women were exasperated, and when one of the trio attempted to indicate to one of the officers—both of whom had observed no injuries beyond a scrape to Sinthasomphone's knee and believed him to be intoxicated [189]—that Sinthasomphone had blood upon his testicles, was bleeding from his rectum and that he had seemingly struggled against Dahmer's attempts to walk him to his apartment prior to their arrival, [n 12] the officer harshly informed her to "butt out", [190] "shut the hell up" and to not interfere. [193] Teen Describes Escape from Dahmer". Lodi News-Sentinel. Lodi, California. Associated Press. February 8, 1992. Archived from the original on January 22, 2021 . Retrieved December 5, 2013. On April 23, Dahmer lured Ronald Flowers Jr. to his house; however, after giving Flowers a drugged coffee, both he and Flowers heard Dahmer's grandmother call, "Is that you, Jeff?" [132] Although Dahmer replied in a manner that led his grandmother to believe he was alone, she observed that he was not alone. Because of this, Dahmer was unable to kill Flowers, instead waiting until he had become unconscious before taking him to the County General Hospital. Destined For Murder ~ Profiles of Six Serial Killers with Astrological Commentary by Sandra Harrisson Young, Edna Rowland After being taunted by Dahmer and Anderson during their work detail, Scarver said that he confronted Dahmer about his crimes before beating the two men to death. He also claimed that prison guards allowed the murders to happen by leaving them alone. Catherine Lacy, the mother of Dahmer’s victim Oliver Lacy, said his death brought her no closure: “The hurt is worse now, because he’s not suffering like we are.” Jeffrey Dahmer’s House A prison guard claimed that shortly after the murders, Scarver, who was believed to be schizophrenic, said “God told me to do it.” In 2015, Scarver spoke to the New York Post about his reasons for killing Dahmer. Scarver alleged that he was disturbed not only by Dahmer’s crimes but by a habit Dahmer had developed of fashioning severed limbs from prison food to antagonize other inmates.

The] world already has enough misery in it without my adding more to it. [from Albany Times Union; published on August 7, 1991] Shortly after his bathhouse memberships were revoked, [110] Dahmer read a report in a newspaper regarding the upcoming funeral of an 18-year-old male. He conceived the idea of stealing the freshly interred corpse and taking it home. [111] According to Dahmer, he attempted to dig up the coffin from the ground, but found the soil too hard and abandoned the plan. [112]

PS I'm not into true crime to read gross details (though I'm not squeamish about it either) so I'm not looking for one that has the highest level of detail about the crimes necessarily - I'm more interested in a book that offers insight into the killer's motive, or has interesting investigative angle.

July 19: Joseph Arthur Bradehoft, 25. Dahmer's last victim. Bradehoft was a father of three children from Minnesota who was looking for work in Milwaukee at the time of his murder. [351] [352] He was left on Dahmer's bed for two days following his murder before, on July 21, being decapitated. His head was placed in the refrigerator and his torso in the 57-gallon drum. O'Connor, William (July 28, 1991). "And So We Ask: Who - and Why - is This Man?". Akron Beacon Journal . Retrieved November 14, 2022.In accordance with his inclusion in regular work details, Dahmer was assigned to work with two other convicted murderers, Scarver and Jesse Anderson. After they had been left alone to complete their tasks, guards returned to find that Scarver had brutally beaten both men with a metal bar from the prison weight room. Dahmer was pronounced dead after approximately one hour. Anderson died from his injuries days later. The novel depicts the author's teenage friendship with Jeffrey Dahmer, who later became an infamous serial killer, during his time at Eastview Junior High and Revere High School. The story follows Dahmer from age 12 up to, but not including, his first murder, two weeks after high school graduation. Dahmer initially pleaded not guilty to all charges, despite having confessed to the killings during police interrogation. He eventually changed his plea to guilty by virtue of insanity. His defense then offered the gruesome details of his behavior, as proof that only someone insane could commit such terrible acts. The subtleties of social life were beyond my grasp. When children liked me, I did not know why. Nor could I formulate a plan for winning their affection. I simply didn’t know how things worked with other people. ... And try as I might, I couldn’t make other people seem less strange and unknowable. [from The New School Psychology Bulletin; Volume 5, No. 1, 2007]

July 5: Jeremiah Benjamin Weinberger, 23. Met Dahmer at a gay bar in Chicago and agreed to accompany him to Milwaukee for the weekend. Dahmer drilled through Weinberger's skull and injected boiling water into the cavity. He later recalled Weinberger's death to be exceptional, as he was the only victim who died with his eyes open. [349] Weinberger's decapitated body was kept in the bathtub for a week before being dismembered; his torso was placed in the 57-gallon drum. Inside his apartment and in an effort to verify his claim that he and Sinthasomphone were lovers, Dahmer showed the officers the two semi-nude Polaroid pictures he had taken of Sinthasomphone the previous evening. Though Balcerzak said he smelled nothing unusual, Gabrish later stated he noted a strange scent reminiscent of excrement inside the apartment. [196] This odor emanated from the decomposing body of Hughes. [197] [198] Dahmer stated that to investigate this odor, one officer simply "peeked his head around the bedroom, but really didn't take a good look." The officers then left, with a departing remark that Dahmer "take good care" of Sinthasomphone. [199] This incident was listed by the officers as a " domestic dispute." [190] [n 14] A four-part docuseries called My Son Jeffrey: The Dahmer Family Tapes begins streaming on September 18, 2023, on Fox Nation. It includes never-before-released audio recordings of Dahmer, including phone conversations he had with his father, Lionel, while in prison. According to Court TV, Dahmer said in one recording that he fully intended to keep killing if he hadn’t been captured: “I was so wrapped up in what I was doing. I felt I was gonna continue doing that for the rest of my life.” In other recordings, Lionel asked if he has tried praying to God, and Dahmer replied he hadn’t because it made him “feel uncomfortable.” Quotes By 1977, Dahmer's grades had declined. [54] His parents hired a private tutor, with limited success. The same year, in an attempt to save their marriage, his parents attended counseling sessions. They continued to quarrel frequently. When Lionel discovered Joyce had engaged in a brief affair in September 1977, they decided to divorce, telling their sons they wished to do so amicably. The process of their divorce soon became increasingly bitter and acrimonious, and Lionel moved out of the house in early 1978, [55] temporarily residing in a motel on North Cleveland Massillon Road. [56] [57] Two months after his conviction and two months prior to his sentencing, Dahmer murdered his fifth victim, a 24-year-old mixed-race aspiring model, Anthony Sears, whom he met at a gay bar on March 25, 1989. According to Dahmer, on this particular occasion he was not looking to commit a crime; however, shortly before closing time that evening, Sears "just started talking to me". Dahmer lured Sears to his grandmother's home, where the pair engaged in oral sex before Dahmer drugged and strangled Sears. [5]Killer Remembered As a 'Wimp' ". Deseret News.
