About this deal

The AN/PVS-31A Binocular Night Vision Device (BNVD) is a rugged, self-contained, compact & lightweight dual tube goggle with high performance Gen 3 Unfilled White Phosphor image intensifiers. Ergonomic, low-profile binocular design provides operator with superior situational awareness and improved depth perception over single-tube systems. The housing is engineered to be more rugged over legacy AN/PVS-15 system. The SI/PVS-14 Photonis Echo White Phosphor is a Gen 2 Commercial offering with a thinner film than the AN/PVS-31A, and options for a Steele Protective Lens and Wilcox L4 G24 Mount. It also offers excellent battery life with one AA battery that can last up to 30 hours, or four AA batteries for a battery life of up to 60 hours. Comparing two advanced generations of night vision goggles, the AN/PVS-31A and the SI/PVS-14, reveals different levels of performance and features.

You may choose to apply Price Match or the TacLight promotion, discount or voucher. As mentioned earlier the PVS-31 are famous for their light weight. They weigh somewhere shy of a pound. Something like 15 ounces. However, the BNVD-1431 weighs a bit more at 21.2 ounces. That is 1.2 ounces more than my DTNVGs. The DTNVGs have polymer infinity focus stop rings whereas the 1431s have aluminum but I do not think that is where the weight difference is. The 1431 uses a AA battery which is a little bit heavier than the CR123 that powers the DTNVG but that only accounts for 7 grams according to my kitchen scale. The DTNVG (Dual Tube Night Vision Goggle) combines the benefits of both RNVG and PVS-31. A design similar to the PVS-31 provides the advantage of dual tube technology, offering excellent depth perception. While many consumers, both government and commercial have been focused on FOM (Signal to Noise Ratio multiplied by Center Resolution expressed in lp/mm) as a metric for image intensifier performance and image quality, with manufacturers pushing the envelope of performance through improved methods and processes.

The BNVD’s twin-tube design offers greater reliability in the field against failure or damage versus a single-tube night vision devices. Manual system gain adjustment allows operator to control image brightness to match the environment. The BNVD also can be used as a monocular by rotating either left or right channel, up and out of the way. In The Box On the other hand, the PVS-31’s field of view is slightly narrower but compensates with enhanced depth perception. 3. Durability and Build Using both eyes is typically better than one eye. Which is why dual tube night vision goggles are better than a monocular. There are situations where a monocular is better. Better situational awareness in mixed lighting environments for example. This is where articulated night vision comes into play. You can roll one up out of the way and use just one of the monoculars. Or in the extremely rare circumstances that one of your image intensifying tubes dies, you can roll the bad one out of the way. Its lightweight design ensures comfort during prolonged use, and the option for hands-free operation with various mounting choices adds to its appeal. The RNVG provides crystal-clear night vision, ensuring clear observations in low-light conditions. PVS31 Night Vision So, the choice between the RNVG and PVS-31 depends on the specific needs and preferences of the user.

Additionally, the rear eyepieces on the PVS-31 do not have an adjustable diopter. If you have bad eyesight you will need to keep wearing corrective lenses while using PVS-31s or pony up the cash for the fixed diopters from L3. Also by using PVS-14 optics on the BNVD-1431, you can use any compatible accessory like filters or a COTI. There is an adapter for the COTI to attach onto PVS-31 objective lenses but that is extra.
