I didn't read 140 pages because I was thrilled, I read it because it took that long for Dan Brown to get to the premise of the effing book. This book is written in way that if you are fan of Michael Crichton books, you will like this one too. The themes of that story are much more appealing to me compared to the other Dan Brown novels I've read. Whether the security leaks have come from the repeated “skyquakes” heard as far away as Los Angeles, or the unfortunate eyewitness sightings by a North Sea oil rig driller, or the administrative gaffe that left a description of Aurora in a public copy of the Pentagon budget, nobody will ever know. The speed is primarily the result of an exotic new propulsion system known as a Pulse Detonation Wave Engine, which burns a clean misted, liquid hydrogen and leaves a tell tale pulse contrail in the sky.

Dan Brown is the bestselling author of Digital Fortress , Deception Point , Angels and Demons, The Da Vinci Code, The Lost Symbol and most recently, Inferno .and while this definitely was a bit over my head when it comes to science and space knowledge, it delivered immensely in terms of suspense, thrills, and shock. When a NASA satellite discovers an astonishingly rare object buried deep in the Arctic ice, the floundering space agency proclaims a much-needed victory—a victory with profound implications for NASA policy and the impending presidential election. Rachel Sexton: A data analyst for NRO and Senator Sexton's daughter, Rachel's relationship with her father is antagonistic because of his infidelity, which indirectly contributed to her mother's death in an accident. William Pickering: The main antagonist, director of NRO and the handler of the Delta Force team featured in the book, he is the mastermind behind main plot line. S. Delta Force is made up of three 150-man squadrons and is the sole fighting squad who actions are granted complete presidential immunity from the law.

By the end of Deception Point, the reader will be much better informed about how the space program works and how politicians react to new information. As I was reading the story, I flagged no less than a dozen examples of astonishing gadgetry that I was completely unaware of. In the ensuing skirmish, all Delta Force soldiers are killed, their helicopter is sunk, and Pickering is revealed to be their commander.

But before she can warn the President, Rachel and Michael are ambushed by a deadly team of assassins. Brown’s ability to develop the characters so well that you feel they are so real and close to your heart.

Lately Sexton's face seemed to be on every national magazine, his campaign slogan plastered all across America: "Stop spending. It was a well thought out plot with great character development, but I wanted more out of the novel. The discovery of the meteorite therefore becomes part of political powerplay in Washington and Sexton's daughter who's working for the NRO gets caught up in it. She's unwilling to quit and come work for her father to help his campaign, which is dangerously close to getting enough votes to win the upcoming election.Pickering's intention is to help president Herney maintain the office for ulterior motivations of his own: his ultimate goal is to make NASA a division of NRO, thus rendering its operations clandestine.
