About this deal

This is a varied and interesting role which will include processing sales and office administration. It must be really disheartening for all you growers to experience all these problems with peat free composts.

I have to say we abandoned the use of fully organic composts some time ago at our urban farm/market garden as the results were so bad, but then we are not ‘certified’ as we do not trade product as organic even though (with this exception, and that of always using organic seed with which we have had similarly dismal results) we follow the standards as best we can. Some of the plants look like they need feeding after a very short time considering it is supposed to be ready to go compost. Ps since the above, FF have agreed to send a replacement batch, which is great, although I’d still like to find out what went wrong. Growing media based on composted wood fibres, green waste and more local sources of material are all possible – we just need a quality guarantee of a consistent product.

Our potting compost (with loam) has generally produced some quality plants, but we did have some cucumbers damping off after transplanting from the modules into the pots. The FertileFibre Company is a friendly Herefordshire-based business driven by the philosophy to be smart, sensitive and sustainable. In a bustling, big-city environment, it can be all too easy to become somewhat disconnected from the natural world. The term organic quality is actually meaningless, a product can be rubbish but provided it meets standards it gets the organic quality stamp. I've been rehydrating mine and unless the chips are actually sitting in water, the chips are relatively dry.

They also supply ‘green’ peat – not mined from peat bogs but peat that’s eroded from upland blanket bogs and then collected from the screens in water filtration systems.Thirdly, as some of you have already stated, the pH of the compost is very acidic, this is again will present a breeding ground for pathogenic bacteria etc to exist and cause crops to fail; the ideal pH is 6. Yet again we are having serious propagation problems with ‘organic quality’ organic seed and potting composts. Impressively, it matched the scores of the professional peat compost and had the highest germination rate of any peat-free compost’. Is it something I should be concerned about, or is the high conductivity just a result of harmless tanins etc. I've got a quick question about TDS measurements: I rehydrated the block with pure RO water (TDS <5ppm), but after passing through the coir, the water measures >200ppm.

We’ve also had low germinations, but as ever its hard to fathom the causes of this, although another (very experienced) grower to whom we gave a few bags has also had germination issues. Hello – yes, we’ve had problems with FF (Vegro Multipurpose), as well: brassica seedlings – diff varieties from diff suppliers, all bought this yr – in particular failing to thrive and fly larvae eating the roots of the plants. If you’re looking for organic, peat-free garden compost delivered throughout the UK, you’re in the right place. I have always found fertile fibre to be variable at best but after a reasonable year last year decided to continue using it.I am going to the gym it started just before the first lockdown and i lost over 4 stone then lockdown happened and i piled the weight back on being in a wheelchair it is hard to lose weight. Its wetting and water holding capacity is a joke, and we have had utterly and expensively lousy germination from it all season. Pear mix with topsoil and grit,,,could you suggest me a pear free alternative to peat…thanx…either from you or can be ready bought….
