About this deal

I don't want to spend much, but the original body shell looks like you would have change from a quid to produce it, so I am hoping that an alternative would not be too much for essentially a budget rock crawler. and a few days later, it's totally dead, led on the charger was always green, even there was nothing left in the battery. I then set up a course in the lounge and challenged my Son to see who could complete it in the quickest time (he won). Ours developed a fault on boxing day, which was a massive disappointment for my son who received it for Christmas. The centrally mounted gearbox is actually pretty small and it drives the two drive shafts universals to the front and rear axles.

I have the HBX 2098B Devastator and although the vehicle itself is alright,I think it looks terrible. I had quite a few topples but each time I got a little further as I aimed to get the truck up the tree trunk. Looks to me like it has been in its box position for a long long time and the suspension has leaned to one side and twisted everything out of sync, to me this is because of the mounting position in the box leant over, on one side for what maybe years and the suspension and chassis have had this result. TowerPro also now has the SG92R servo that seems to use the same motor size while being faster and stronger, and to be both it can't be just gear reduction, the motor has to be better too.

The aluminium chassis looks great and it feels well made, there is also a certain amount of adjustability available with different link attachments. The steering speed itself is fine with the kit included servo's, they are quite responsive and they are proportional. I happened to have a single SG90 of unknown quality (no sticker, could be a genuine TowerPro) and decided to swap the motor as a test. The crabbing worked to get the car around smaller obstacles that were blocking the main route, and the four wheel steer excelled when I didn't have much space to turn.

Here I started to really see some of the benefit of changing the steering modes as the truck balanced on the edge of a rock and I wanted to turn it to reach onto the dirt.vs 11mm) where the last stage gear is slimmer (less contact area) and therefore might be weaker - only time will tell. Having all of these 4 steering modes available at the touch of a button is something that seems to be unique to the Devastator, and it is something that I am eager to try out! Now the wheels are a bit wider than the standard losi rims but the tyres do fit with a slight stretched look to the sidewalls. The difference is quite staggering, as there is now enough torque to go full lock even on sticky surfaces, and it's slightly but noticeably faster too.

I would advise you to ensure that the screws are all tightened (I used threadlock on the screws that hold the links). Overall it is great fun, not as fast as the Axiel Scx24 but the 4 wheel steering makes it as much fun for us. I found that the rear steer worked well at times when I wanted to get the Truck back on track if the front wheels had slipped when lifting the car.One thing to note, 6V and 12V gearboxes don't seem to be compatible, the pinions are different sizes (or at least the 12V 200RPM gearbox doesn't fit the 6V 300RPM motor and vice versa). There are a few neat mods, such as swapping the servo mounts, I did it on the front as it puts the servo horn behind the profile of the tires. As is is made from aluminium so it keeps it all rigid and allows the linked suspension to do the hard work when trying to keep its wheels on the ground. The 4 wheel steer and build quality are the best bits for us, unfortunately the tyres are the first thing that needs changing and we added wheel weights.

Overall I have been impressed with the Devastator, it is something a little different with the 4 steering modes and the fact that you can make a course pretty much anywhere ensures that you are able to have fun indoors or out.To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. The run time is impressive with 25-30 minutes being a lot of time available to mess about with it in a lunchbreak or messing around in the pit area between heats. I want to do a little adjustment on the linkage bars, but I can't seem to figure out out to remove them? Yeah that would look mean I think they would suit a 1/20 build a bit better, I’ll fit them to my old beat up twin cab Silverado and see how they look on that, it’s 1/24. when i connected the battery (battery had been charged a little by the seller), the car can move for about 10cm, and after that, motor wont run anymore, but servos still work normally.
