About this deal

Serving Suggestions: A classic full bodied “dessert” rum, perfect neat, as a digestif or in a classic “after dinner” drink such as an old fashion. It has a full nose, packed with dark coffee, candied orange, almonds, dark chocolate, pepper, and rich vanilla, with smoky, spicy undertones and high notes of grilled tropical fruit—a smooth, sensual and exotic indulgence. Some say it has all the rough edges and is a mighty fine sipping rum that is smooth and traditional. Those results coupled with the level of sweetness on the palate give a very strong hint that sweeteners are being added in one form or the other. El Dorado Special Reserve 15-Year rum is crafted from 15 to 25 year old rums that are then blended and married together in bourbon oak casks.

Rich and satiny, a vibrant entry leads to a dry-yet-fruity full body of toffee, coffee and brown spice on the palate, finished with a seemingly endless, sweet, nutty fade with evolving layers of tobacco, chocolate and spice. For many people this will be rum heaven but if you prefer a more austere style you might find this a touch sweet. El Dorado's home is in the South American country of Guyana and they're situated in Georgetown on the banks of the Demerara River. On the palate the 21 year old is velvety smooth with tropical fruits, coffee, leather and rich toffee.I can instantly smell brown sugar, dark fruit (prunes and dates), vanilla, a little spice and what can only be described as liquorice. In the event of any safety concerns or for any other information about a product please carefully read any instructions provided on the label or packaging and contact the manufacturer. Ageing at ambient temperature under tropical climatic conditions contributes crucially to the mellow smoothness of the final spirit, with its complex flavours and rich aromas that make Demerara Rums so unique. Being that I prefer drinking my rum neat, the fact that I have to add water to improve the flavor drops the rating to an 8. The story of rum in Guyana started in the 1640s with the introduction of sugar cane by the early European settlers.

The General Wine Company sources wines from all over the world, but with a particular focus on small, independent producers. Rich aromas of dark coffee and chocolate, almond, vanilla and pepper are followed by a beautifully rounded palate of smooth oak and tropical fruit. Which could mean that they haven’t stopped ageing with caramel in the barrel, if that story is true to begin with. War die alte Abfüllung noch eine ziemliche Zuckerbombe, so ist die neue Version staubtrocken, herb und holzig, ähnlich ein guter Cognac oder Single Malt.

This answer puzzled me a little, but my knowledge level wasn’t where it is now, so I left it at that. The county of Demerara in Guyana has been steeped in the history of sugar and rum production since the 17th century. They also sell a ton of bulk rum which ends up being released by independent bottlers after being aged in Europe. El Dorado is on a mission to create the smallest environmental footprint in rum, this means taking responsibility for the way we source, distill and transport the world’s best rum.Strain into a coupe, garnish with an orange twist if you dare to up your ingredient count, and sip a slightly tropical, but still very serious, libation.
