About this deal

First up, I have an issue with any author that refers to a doctor as “a little Indian man” when there’s no reason for it in the narrative. We pick up the narrative 14 years later when Emily (who now goes by Connie Prynne) is given a breast cancer diagnosis. So Emily takes a secretarial job at an advertising agency to pay the bills while he gains master chef status.

I loved making this with such a brilliant team – all of us set on reimagining the traditional radio play… And I hope your ears enjoy it too.The writing was decent, the characters sweet and endearing, and the premise of the story (the willful disappearance of a troubled woman after 9/11) but I think the story line could have been a bit more original, a little more conspiratorial, and longer. A young cynic in 1992, Emily develops into a good judge of character, choosing her friends carefully in New York and marrying young.

This is a series that will challenge your prejudices and invite you to ask: what would you do if you had the opportunity to run away? Connie Prynne is a single mother living in California who has just received a devastating diagnosis of inflammatory breast cancer. It helps that Connie is a bit spiky; that we don’t really know why she disappeared; that Hugh Laurie appears in episode two; and, especially, that the show has been meticulously produced. A friendship with her sassy work colleague highlights the failings of her marriage, further compounded by Drew's restaurant falling through.People Who Knew Me on BBC Radio 5 Live, written and directed by Daniella Isaacs (from Kim Hooper’s book), tells the tale of Connie Prynne – played by Rosamund Pike – and the crisis caused by her breast cancer diagnosis. There's evidence to suggest that some people likely used the tragedy of 9/11 to fake their own deaths.

In addition to Pike, Laurie and Isaacs, the People Who Knew Me cast also includes Isabella Sermon (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom), Kyle Soller ( Andor), Alfred Enoch ( Harry Potter) and Jessica Darrow ( Encanto). Now, with her thirteen-year-old daughter Claire by her side, voiced by Isabella Sermon, Connie must confront her past so that her daughter will not be alone if she does not survive. Emily Morris (played by Pike) uses the devastating 9/11 tragedy as a chance to ditch her life in New York City and head to California. I had some of my own issues with the book, but I don’t think that a main character has to be particularly likable for a book to be good.

What's more, Pike's performance as Emily/Connie is pitched to perfection, with it being hard at times to know whether to trust her narrative.
