About this deal

Story 1 | "End of the Liner" - A post-apocalyptic world where we follow a group of people stuck on a cruise ship for decades. Part mystery but with a sometimes horror themed twist, each offering brings us something slightly different. The stories vary in length and theme, but in her style, everyone features twists that you don’t see coming and glimpses into our nature that sometimes break and other times bite.

It also put me in mind of the scene-setting introduction that Alfred Hitchcock used to provide in "Alfred Hitchcock presents" television series.I already had a taste of Tudor’s short story writing when three were tacked on to an audio that I listened to a couple of years ago…one of them showed up in this collection (The Lion at the Gate) and I enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed it the first time. Her books have the ability to simultaneously make you unable to stop reading while wishing you could bury the book somewhere deep underground where it can't be found. Tudor's novels are widely acclaimed for their dark, twisty suspense plots, but with A Sliver of Darkness, she pulls us even further into her dizzying imagination.

There is really something for everyone in A Sliver of Darkness and I loved the mix of horror and mystery, as well as the dash of revenge for good measure. I do best with short stories connected to a long series, probably because the world and characters are already developed.I always enjoy when an author includes these types of insights into their inspirations, or connections, to each story. The Lion at the Gate follows a group of boys who discover a graffiti lion that doesn’t stay as a painting for long. What I learned from this book: That everything can be an inspiration, even the smallest things in our daily lives.

Told with real heart along with demonic savagery, these are stories to luxuriate with in the tenebrous. Tudor engineered a consistent set of nearly a dozen terse tales that keeps the reader engaged throughout the course of the book. As someone who has read all of Tudor’s published works, this is a great starting point for those that have not read her books before! It was simply that I wanted to see more of characters like Gloria and to learn more about the bleak future worlds with their hints of cataclysm and desperation.J. Tudor there are hints of Stephen King, but I also sensed influences from the likes of Doctor Who, Kafka, Alex Garland, Roald Dahl, Jules Verne and H.
