The Peppermint Crisp is sold in South Africa as both a 49 gram bar and a 150 gram slab. In New Zealand it is sold as a 49gram bar, and in Australia as a 35 gram bar. Supplied by Nestle, this candy will sure to be a hit with your guests. This Confectionery is a product of Australia. The food colouring is entirely optional – you don’t have to add it. But I wanted this peppermint slice to be reminiscent of the one I remember from my childhood. Plus I’m a child of the eighties, so I’m not against a tiny amount of food colouring every now and then. the chocolate topping Have you tried this with milk? Try biting off either end of the bar, after that, using the bar as a straw on a glass of milk! A deliciously unique minty creamy treat with its green mint flavoured crystals that shatter providing a delightful texture and flavour.

A peppermint slice is one of my childhood favourites. They sold it in school and it was always my first choice, closely followed by the fabulous School dinner cake, Mars Bar slice and chocolate concrete! Those were the days! I first made these Chocolate Peppermint Crisps for a Christmas Dinner table where they accompanied a bag of homemade shortbread. What equipment do I need ? Fear not, the shortage is not because Peppermint Crisp is being discontinued. Nor is it due to exports, as I originally thought, having discovered that both Australians and New Zealanders love Peppermint Crisp too. Mnisi explained that the chocolate is manufactured in those markets. A Peppermint Crisp Fridge Tart is a decadent, sweet, creamy dessert, made by mixing whipped cream and caramelised condensed milk with grated peppermint crisp chocolate and layering it between crispy coconut-flavoured biscuits. The cream and caramel mixture gets absorbed into the biscuits as the tart chills, giving them a softer, more cake-like texture.

Pour the mixture onto the baking parchment and spread with a palette knife. Don’t worry about getting too smooth a surface.

Despite often being known as after dinner mints, these versatile treats are delicious any time of the day. South Africa is well known for its fridge tarts (why not try this recipe for pineapple fridge tart?) and this is one of the easiest fridge tarts to make. It literally takes 15 minutes from start to tart. The hardest part is waiting for it to set in the fridge afterwards. Decorate the slice with your favourite peppermint chocolates or treats. You can add chopped pieces of Mint Slice biscuits, crushed candy canes, Aero chocolate or more Peppermint Crisp.

These are too good for sharing, hide them away from your friends and loved ones. Oh. My. Gosh. OH MY GOSH!!!!
