About this deal

Laura is also a freelance journalist and has written articles for publications including the Daily Mirror, the i, Metro, Stylist and Happiful magazine. Why you should trust us The Bissell PowerLifter bagless vacuum excels in cleaning pet hair because of its power, but also special attention to details. But best of all, it boasts very powerful suction. Due to its multi-cyclonic technology suction power doesn’t drop as the canister gets full. Dirt and dust are separated so the filter doesn’t get clogged. A feature that is surprising on a vacuum at its price. Highly manoeuvrable, it can follow you over the carpet and glide around furniture. Only 4 kg, it is light enough to hold while hoovering the stairs. The most obvious benefit is the cost. With no bags to buy your cost to operate the vacuum is minimal.

Bagged/bagless: Bagged | Capacity: 9 litres | Weight: 8 kg | Run time: N/A | Charging time: N/A | Included tools: combi floor tool, Airobrush 270 for deep-cleaning carpets and large areas, Airobrush 14 for stairs, upholstery and smaller areas, crevice tool, dusting tool, brush and mattress tool What we like The only downside that I can see is that there are some models whose chambers are not the easiest to open and dispose of. But, the same could be said for the bagged vacuums, too. It’s got superb suction and is 890W because the EU has a law which prohibits vacuums from using more power than that. Some nice features make it stand out. It is easy to use since the steel hose is telescopic. It collapses into the body and becomes a handheld duster perfect for using in the car or furniture. We have a Hetty Pet. Better than our Dyson and we have four dogs!!” (Recommended by Mumsnet user 30degreesandmeltinghere) Our verdict

Miele vacuums always come recommended for their supreme AirClean filtration which claims to remove 99 per cent of allergens from the air. That’s obviously hard to prove, but it definitely left my carpets dust free. You shouldn’t have to lift the CZ500UKT too often, though, since you’ll mostly be pulling the body around with you on its four wheels, cleaning with the DuoClean floor head. Shark is better known for its cordless and upright vacuum cleaners, but here we have something new: the Shark Bagless Cylinder Vacuum Cleaner CZ500UKT. Although the old cylinder design is less popular than it once was, the smaller bodies and more flexible heads that happily fit under most furniture make them popular with some (me included).

I recently bought this one. It is small and light but very powerful. I love it..” Rated by Mumsnetter ApolloandDaphne Our verdict Both our experts (Petrova of Happy House Cleaning Company and Fola George from domestic services company WeCasa) recommend Dyson vacuum cleaners – and the incredibly high-tech Dyson V15 came top in my test of the best cordless vacuum cleaners. Sadly Dyson will no longer be selling cylinder vacuums in the UK as the focus is on their upright and cordless models, but you can still buy the most recent Dyson Big Ball Animal 2 Bagless Cylinder Vacuum Cleaner, and it has a lot to recommend it. However, a cordless vacuum cleaner may not be the best choice if you have lots of carpet or a large area to clean. Corded upright and cylinder vacuums aren’t limited by battery life, and in most instances they have more powerful suction. Petrova also recommends looking for a vacuum with a HEPA filter, “as they provide the best method of filtration and traps even particles too small to see with naked eye.”Cylinder vacuums are made up of two parts: the main body, which you pull behind you as you work, and the suction head, which is connected via a hose. They are usually lightweight and, unlike cordless or robot models, you don't need to worry about recharging them as they run on mains power. Bagged/bagless: Bagless | Capacity: 2 litres | Weight: 11.1kg | Run time: N/A | Charging time: N/A | Included tools: Turbo brush, dusting brush, upholstery nozzle, crevice nozzle What we like Bagged/bagless: Bagless | Capacity: 1.6 litres | Weight: 9.44kg | Run time: N/A | Charging time: N/A | Included tools: 3-in-1 tool What we like

When compiling our list of recommendations, our team of experienced, trusted parenting journalists spend hours researching every product category, using a variety of sources to analyse and evaluate which products perform best. Many of the recommendations for cylinder vacuum cleaners came from Mumsnetters themselves who’ve spent hours of their time putting the products through their paces to clean their own homes. Dust capacity: The bigger the dust capacity, the more your vacuum can hold. Typically measured in litres, a larger dust capacity means you'll empty it less often. The Miele Cat & Dog is lighter and smaller than the Henrys, so it is easier to manoeuvre and store. But it is worth remembering that it has half the capacity, so be prepared for more trips to the dustbin. Forking out for more dust bags also adds to the cost of what is already a pretty pricey vacuum. This is an all-rounder of a vacuum, but it does have certain qualities that will make it even more appealing for pet owners, including the Anti Hair Wrap technology on the main vacuum head and on the additional dedicated Anti Hair Wrap Power Tool. To use the pet attachment, you attach it onto the nozzle of the Flexology wand, and it features as a mini, super powerful head that you can use on cushions, curtains, upholstery or whatever you see fit to bring up embedded hair. Experts say what you should really be comparing is the output power, given in airWatts. This is calculated by multiplying two other measurements (told you this was complicated):

2. Best budget cylinder vacuum cleaner: Numatic Henry Pet Pro Vacuum Cleaner

It is not enough to have a vacuum that has excellent suction when you have pets. It should have powerful suction, but also have special features that take into account the special challenges that pet owners have when cleaning up.

It’s horrible having to detangle and cut out all the hair that’s caught in your vacuum brush head, but Shark’s innovative Anti Hair Wrap Technology removes hair so you don’t have to get out the scissors. The unique bristle guard removes long, short and pet hair as you clean – so that’s one less job for you to do. And bright LED headlights help make hidden dust more visible, so you’ll know exactly when your floors are clean. The other attachments that you can make use of with this vacuum are the crevice tool and the upholstery tool. The crevice tool is perfect for me for reaching up to areas in my flat that I have no hope of cleaning even when I stand on a ladder. I set to work on my extremely high kitchen cabinets after I first moved into my flat, and I really liked how it got into all of the spaces that the larger brush head can't. After a while, it is laborious to hold the Flexology Wand with the attachment as the whole get-up is so long. It is not energy efficient at 1100 watts, but the suction power is an incredible 220 air watts for airflow. It can handle dirt stains from muddy boots or pets. And excels at removing pet hair.Accessory storage: This varies from model to model; some allow you to store the accessories within the main body of the vacuum while others clip on or may need to be stored separately.
