About this deal

You can now add these squads of Rebel snipers and saboteurs to your Star Wars™: Legion armies with the Rebel Commandos Unit Expansion. Whether you choose to deploy your operatives as a full unit or break them into smaller teams, the seven unpainted, easily assembled Rebel Commando miniatures in this expansion can be enhanced with five upgrade cards that further enhance their unconventional approach to the battle. The strike team is the fashionable way to field snipers currently, and they play very differently from other units, so this section will be considerably longer than the Full Squad section. Strike teams are just so damn interesting, yeah?

A-280 Blaster Rifle. Technically the same weapon as Rebel Troopers, but the surge/hit and Sharpshooter 1 make it much more reliable. Units with small dice pools and no Sharpshooter 2 got hit hard by the cover changes, and Sabine is no exception. While she’s still fast and reasonably durable, and Explosions! still blows things up, it’s much harder to do real damage with Sabine on her non-Explosions turn, and that is a lot to pay 125+ points for. There is a case to take her with Ahsoka (for the teamwork card) or Clan Wren for Retinue (because of how solid and cheap they are now) but don’t expect Sabine to contribute to your offense like she used to. Han Solo Releasing alongside the Han Solo Commander Expansion in the third quarter of 2018, the Rebel Commandos Unit Expansion is poised to shake your Rebel armies to their core. Read on for a closer look at what you’ll find inside this expansion!

Within this expansion, you’ll find seven unique unpainted Rebel Veteran miniatures to add to your collection, including a Mark II Medium Blaster Trooper miniature that can be deployed as a detachment, offering valuable fire support to all of your units. Accompanying these miniatures are two unit cards, a selection of upgrade cards allowing you to outfit your veterans with new weapons and gear, and all the tokens you need to add them to your Rebel armies! The format of this article will be a little different, since the full squad and strike team play differently but share the same weapon upgrade. First we’ll hit some high level pros and cons common to both versions of Commando saboteurs, then we’ll look at the proton charge stats. Lastly, we’ll look at the differences between the full squad and strike team, and some tactics. For example, normally an enemy unit must be within range of your weapons before you can open fire upon them. If a DH-447 Sniper is on the field, however, range is no longer an issue. This miniature can target anything at Range 1 and beyond, effectively bringing the entire battlefield into play. Considering dodge tokens cannot be spent to avoid the DH-447’s high velocity rounds and that these rounds pierce through a unit’s defenses, the presence of single sniper on the field is enough to send enemy troops running for cover instead of toward their objectives. Basically there are three situations where you land a wound: both dice hit, one of the two die crits, or both dice crit. There are also possibilities to miss; namely, a complete whiff, or only one dice hitting. Let’s look at the various scenarios.

points is a lot, but Uplink can be really helpful for utilizing that last/first activation to get some offensive bombing done. It also combos with command cards like No Time For Sorrows, making the No Time For Sorrows peekabo a little easier. Summary All that said, he has a decent gun with Sharpshooter 2 (which is huge these days) and very solid cards. You could certainly do worse for your commander slot. Luke Skywalker (both versions) R2-D2– You have to buy an unfortunately overpriced terrain piece to get him but R2 opens up a lot of options for rebels. Notably, his Secret Mission can score you an extra point and in Legion, where games are frequently resolved on small margins it can mean the difference between winning or going to kill points for a tie breaker. Conclusion Cassian Andor–Whereas Luke is one of the best melee characters, Cassian is one of the best gunner heroes. He’s very versatile, able to play as a sniper or medium range shooter. He also comes with K2, an operative who is surprisingly tanky and can infiltrate in alongside Cassian allowing you to cause some mayhem early.Big chart, small chart. Red chart, blue chart. This one has a little star. This one has a little car. Boy what a lot of… bloody hell, I’ve been reading too many children’s books. That is a lot of text; basically it means you can delay up to two wounds until after your next activation. It isn’t great on Commandos themselves, but boy was this tailor made for Luke. Yup, whiny farmboy has a gear slot. One extra Luke activation for 8 points? Yes please. Unlike with sniper strike teams, the tactics for the full squad and strike team are relatively similar. Charges are laid from the unit leader, so corner peeking works with both. The landspeeder got some huge cuts in the last points update, making players reconsider if that Unstable Astromech double hardpoint build actually is any good after all. Turns out a strong seven dice pool tapped twice in a row actually does quite a bit of work if you’re looking for an alpha strike build, and now you can do that for as little as 108 points. You can of course still put R2 in one of these if you want, to double as some repair insurance while threatening to score that extra point. Rebel Vets and Mark II Medium Blaster

D – Situational. Units that perform niche roles and are usable in certain circumstances, but you need a good reason to run them. The Rebel Alliance can recruit new members from across the galaxy, finding pilots, soldiers, and medics among those who hate the Empire. Plenty of beings can take up a blaster rifle to fight Stormtroopers, but there are a few who are willing to push the boundaries and do whatever it takes to keep the Rebellion alive. Saboteurs. Snipers. The Rebel Alliance’s most dangerous operatives—now entering the infantry battles played out in your games of Star Wars: Legion."

Rebel Troopers Upgrade Expansion–You do want this, purely on the basis of the DLT-20a. Its a fairly potent Range 4 gun that allows your troopers to take shots at the enemy from a relatively safe distance, and still do decent damage once you close the gap. The downside is the financial cost can add up, if you’re trying to get one for every one of your trooper units that means you’ll eventually be looking at up to 4 of them. If you want to hold off, the Z6s you got with the rebel troopers can do in a pinch, even though their role is very different. The excellent Rebel Trooper Captain also comes in this box; he gives a unit of Rebel Troopers some suppression mitigation and a training slot, which you’ll want to fill with Situational Awareness to deal with rampant critical hits in the game. Second Priority Here are the chances of various wounds to a red defense die unit (i.e., Storms) and a white/surge defense die unit (Rebels or other snipers) with and without an aim token. This accounts for Pierce. Rebel Commandos enter Star Wars: Legion as the game’s first special forces unit, and as you might expect, they bring some completely new tactics to your tables. First, there are two distinct unit cards for the Rebel Commandos, inviting you to field this unit in two distinct configurations. For sixty points, you may have a standard unit of Rebel Commandos, with four normal Rebel Commando miniatures and the option to add a heavy weapon miniature to their unit. Basically all the same tips for Rebel Troopers apply to Commandos. Use cover, keep stuff at range 3. Even more than Rebel Troopers, you don’t want to be sending your Commandos into the breach. Let them do their thing at range 3 and stay as safe as possible. An unconventional leader like Han Solo needs unconventional soldiers to lead into battle and the Rebel Commandos Unit Expansion is the perfect complement to one of the Rebellion’s most iconic heroes. Like Solo, the seven unpainted, easily assembled miniatures found in this expansion behave a little differently than their fellow soldiers, opening up all sorts of new tactical possibilities for your Rebel armies.
