About this deal

The retired protagonists are asked by the deceased realtor's parents to investigate. Lizzie, the former forensic specialist, deduces that the trajectory of the body indicates the victim was pushed. The foursome then interviews colleagues at the real estate agency as well as the employees & owners of the building.

I really love them – what do you think? It looks like an open-and-shut case—until one of the Retired Detectives disappears… As Moira tries to keep her past from becoming her present, she finds herself being stalked by someone. Unfortunately, she is not sure the person is after her for looking into the recent crimes, or for the reason she decided to retire from a job she loved but due to her last case which had such a devastating ending, she needed to leave. Her other novels include the Lori Anderson bounty-hunter series and the Starke/Bell psychological police-procedural books (writing as Stephanie Marland). Her books have been shortlisted for the eDunnit eBook of the Year Award, the ITW Best First Novel Award, the Dead Good Reader Awards for Fearless Female Character and Most Exceptional Debut, and longlisted for the Guardian Not The Booker Prize. I absolutely loved every bit of this story. Be it the writing, the mystery behind the kidnapping, the excitement and tension of finding Cody before it is too late, suspense, character development (Moira's was the best!) and plot to story development - absolutely Fantabulous!

Customer reviews

My main criticism probably stems from the fact that I had not read the first two books in the series, but jumped straight to the third book. I normally like cozy crime, but here I missed some base for the story. It is mentioned several times that they don't have a PI license, so why does everyone talk to them? If my family member had been murdered, I wouldn't have spoken to anyone without credentials. Also, what evidence could they find that would stand up in court? I know that this is fiction, but I would have needed more justification for the investigation to seem realistic to me. If you're an avid reader of the series, you might disagree with my point though, I’m thrilled to announce that book four in the Lori Anderson thriller series – Deep Dark Night – is published in ebook now!

In the U.K. with the recent success of The Thursday Murder Club any book sent within a retired community is going to struggle by comparison. However, The Retired Detectives Club within Steph Broadribb’s novel doesn’t struggle due this alone, it fails fundamentally because of the Homestead’s reality which within the text alludes to being Stepford in nature and more in keeping with The Truman Show.Knowing what she knows now, Lori will do whatever she can to save him from this situation. She makes a deal to take a job off of the books from the last person she should be dealing with– Alex Monroe, faithful servant to the FBI.

To keep things short, I have to say that I ended up being surprisingly underwhelmed by Death In The Sunshine. I expected a new favorite, but instead sadly ended up with a dud... Repetition and bland characters don't exactly call for enticing reading, and I don't think I will be continuing the series at this point. Deep Blue Trouble is the exciting sequel to Deep Down Dead, the fast-paced and thrilling first book in the Lori Anderson series. If you loved the action of the debut story, then you certainly have a good chance of really liking this book.

The ending concludes this episode while providing the set up for the next, but I probably won't be returning for more. Published earlier this month, this modern cosy mystery sees best mates and amateur sleuths Adam and Colin investigating the death of a homeless man. Although the police have written the man’s death off as an accident, Adam and Colin think foul play is involved. Undeterred by a warning from the cops to stay out of it, they leap into action and soon find themselves getting much closer to the killer than they’d ever imagined. This is a fun, jaunty-paced read with lots of clever classic and modern Christmas references. You can find out more HERE. Honestly I was drawn to this thanks to Richard Osman and his entertaining set of books with a similar premise. Was this as good? No. Was it entertaining? Absolutely. Deep Down Dead is the first novel in the Lori Anderson series. In this fun new story from a talented author, readers get introduced to the main character in this story, named Lori Anderson! This is a pretty good follow up to the first book. Lizzie really irritated me in this one, her reaction to Phillip’s “lie” was so over the to it was juvenile. That she would even refuse to consider counseling with him to try and overcome their issues was 🙄🙄🙄. Phillip surprised me, he started maturing in this book, realizing how much Lizzie hurt, but also opening up and considering counseling without her to deal with his loss.

Death at Paradise Palms by Steph Broadribb is an exceptionally entertaining read that is mostly cozy, yet a solid whodunit.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Complications in the detectives' lives as well as the obvious determination of the kidnappers keep readers' attention. Although it’s not a full on hard hitting crime series I wouldn’t put the series in a cosy mystery genre either it’s somewhere in between. The person that she’s being paid to hunt is someone that she knows, too. That makes it all the more difficult. JT was a mentor to Lori and he was the one who showed her the ropes in the first place. He taught her how to be a bounty hunter– and also knows quite a bit about her clouded past. JT taught her how to bounty hunt– and now he’s a fugitive and her next target.
